Spotlight on Loft Living in Downtown West
The Motor Lofts & Packard Lofts: Driving Downtown's Revival

By Brian Spellecy | May 01, 2006

With a nod to the past and a wink to the future, two pieces of St. Louis' automotive and architectural heritage will soon become the newest additions to the city's loft scene, courtesy of McGowan | Walsh Historic Renovators. Situated in the red-hot Downtown West neighborhood, the Motor Lofts and Packard Lofts will play a major role in helping extend the Loft District by offering a chic, yet affordable, option for downtown living.

The Motor Lofts
It won't be hard to spot residents of the Motor Lofts; in just a matter of months, you'll see them all over downtown, "motoring" around on their complimentary scooters. That's right, McGowan | Walsh is offering a complimentary scooter for every Motor Loft purchase! Located in the former Motor Parts Warehouse at 22nd and Washington, this historic renovation will consist of 75 one- and two-bedroom lofts with prices starting in the $150,000's. With 15 different floor plans ranging from 680 to 1,530 square feet, the Motor Lofts are sure to appeal to a wide range of buyers.

The Packard Lofts
Just as the Packard represented the epitome of style and elegance to car buyers in the early part of the 20th Century, so will the Packard Lofts to today's loft buyer. Originally designed as a showroom for the Packard Motor Car Company at 22nd and Locust, this art deco gem will house 33 loft condominiums ranging from 770 to 1,800 square feet with prices starting in the $150,000's. Distinctive features of this development include huge oversized windows giving residents sweeping views of the surrounding cityscape, and a fully landscaped "green" roof, offering unique retreat to get away from it all.

Features and Amenities
Standard features in both developments include contemporary architectural kitchens, modern bathrooms with whirlpool tubs, high ceilings (starting at 11 feet), exposed concrete ceilings and columns, private enclosed parking, high-speed data service and rooftop decks offering some of the most impressive views of the downtown skyline available anywhere. Depending on the floor plan, some units will feature large private balconies and walk-in closets. Buyers can customize their units to their liking with the help of $1,000 towards interior finish provided by the developer. The Motor Lofts and Packard Lofts will share a common in ground pool with clubhouse and fitness facility, to be located at 2200 Washington, just steps away from both buildings.

The Neighborhood
Home to Union Station, longtime local favorite The Tap Room and newer hotspots Nectar and the Pepper Lounge, Downtown West has earned a reputation as one of St. Louis' top dining and nightlife destinations. These establishments are only a short walk away from both the Packard and the Motor Lofts developments, and with the frenzied pace of development in the area, more are sure to come in the near future!
