Crown Loft Apartments

4242 Laclede Avenue Sanitol Building : 1907

The building is currently being converted into condominiums.

Renovation began on the Crown Loft Building at 4242 Laclede Avenue in late 2000. The building was originally designed by George Hellmuth, one of the founders of Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum Inc, in 1907 for Sanitol Chemical Laboratory Company, a mouthwash and dental products manufacturer. After Sanitol moved, the building was home to Johnson Stephens & Shinkle Shoe Company and later to Borden Dairy and Crown Foods.

The Classical Revival loft structure was converted to 36 luxury 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom loft apartments that feature refurbished hardwood flooring and millwork, 14-foot ceilings and gracious closet space. Amenities include a swimming pool, courtyard area with barbeque grills and off-street covered parking with gated access.

Residents are within walking distance of many great attractions in the Central West End. Conveniently located at the southeast corner of Laclede and Boyle.
